Alphonse Gangitano was an educated young man from an honest family who made a conscious decision to follow a life of crime.
The Italian Australian rubbed shoulder with hard men in the 1970s such as Brian Kane and Chris Flannery.
He developed the nickname the Black Prince and, in the 1990s, became a major player in the Melbourne Gangland Wars.
Alphonse was a major character in the first series of Underbelly.
