A sequel to the second series of Underbelly, The Golden Mile focuses on events that stemmed from the Kings Cross nightclub scene in Sydney between 1988 and 1999.
Based on real-life, it was a time when the cops and crims ran the most exciting street in Australia.
Strippers, gamblers, gunmen, dealers, bouncers, bagmen – they all came to the Golden Mile.
In the show there’s smart and sexy young Kim Hollingsworth, smiling teenage Kings Cross identity Johnny Ibrahim, the Bayeh Brothers, Trevor Haken and Chook Fowler.
For these players the Golden Mile is their playground – and they play like there’s no tomorrow.
However, in 1995 ‘tomorrow’ came and the Wood Royal Commission cleaned out the Black Empire within the NSW Police, leaving behind a mess that took years of mayhem to bring under control…
The Golden Mile is the story of the excesses and collapse of the empire, the chaos that followed and the ultimate victory of strong and honest police, seen through the eyes of some of the most sexy, charming, corrupt and deadly people of the time.
