Shereen Nanjiani

Former STV news presenter Shereen currently presents her own current affairs programme on BBC Scotland, Shereen, and writes a weekly column for The Scottish Sun. The broadcaster lives in a Victorian lower conversion flat in the West End of Glasgow with her partner Mark Smith and his two children. Busy Shereen buys all of her weekly food shopping online for convenience, but admits she often over orders and ends up throwing a lot of it away – particularly fruit and vegetables. Shereen also admits to jumping in her car for even the shortest trips around Glasgow, and is also a bit of a clothes-hoarder, and has no less than 40 coats in her wardrobe. With definite room to cut down on the waste in her life, will Shereen step up to the task?

Julie Hannah

Stylist and former model Julie Hannah lives in the West End of Glasgow with her fiancé Andy. Glamorous Julie presents fashion workshops and shows across Scotland and has styled a number of celebrities and pop stars – so it’s no surprise she ends up with rails and rails of unworn clothes clogging up her house. And she spends a pretty penny on them too. The busy girl-about-town also admits that when she goes food shopping she simply empties the shelves of the supermarket on a weekly basis, with little or no care as to what she really needs, and ends up throwing away a lot of it. Julie and Andy also drive everywhere, despite having great transport links on their doorstep.

Shereen & Julie

Former top model and Daily Record fashion correspondent Julie Hannah and journalist and broadcaster Shereen Nanjiani are the participants in the second of our four-part series. Their biggest area of waste was food but interestingly neither woman suspected that they would be guilty of throwing away food. But the facts are that between then they dump £1300 worth of food a year, way above the national average. We shocked them by showing them the forty trolleys representing the staggering amount of food that they buy, don’t use and end up dumping every year.
