Liz McColgan

Athlete Liz lives on her own with her five kids. As a new divorcee, she does everything around the house and admits she needs a bit of guidance when it comes to saving the pennies. Liz also owns a health club and two holiday homes that she rents out throughout the year. With such a big family, Liz throws out about four bags of rubbish a week, without taking time to separate it into different bins, and admits much of that is food waste. Liz is aware that her ten-bedroom house loses a lot of heat and is keen to discover ways to stop this. She also admits to leaving the heating on in her two holiday homes when not there as she’s unsure about how to work the boiler. Like many of the celebrities on Too Good To Waste, Liz drives everywhere, covering up to 250 miles a day, but wishes she could be “more economical”.

Chick Young

Broadcaster Chick began his career as a journalist over 40 years ago, and is now one of the most recognisable faces in the world of sport. The sports-lover shares his home, a large upper floor conversion in a 130 year old Victorian sandstone villa, with his long-term partner Celine and her teenage kids, Connor and Luici plus the family dog. A self-confessed petrol head, Chick was taught to ride a motorbike long before his 16th birthday and now owns a host of fuel-guzzling machines including a 3.2 litre diesel Mercedes and a 150 horsepower cabin cruiser motorboat. On the upside, Chick is old school when it comes to “waste not, want not” and gets rid of household waste responsibly, and is a keen gardener – but admits his eight year old compost bin has become a piece of “outdoor sculpture” rather than being put to proper use. Shame on you!

Chick & Liz

Former World Champion athlete Liz McColgan and the nations favourite football pundit Chick Young are our final pairing in the series. A single mother of five, Liz's hectic lifestyle means she struggles to find the time to do the things she knows she should be doing but currently isn’t. Between getting the four children off to school in the morning, looking after the gymnasium business, as well as her coaching session at Hawkhill Harriers in Dundee, she barely has a minute to herself. As a result, controlling the household budget isn't a priority. Chick is an unreconstructed petrol-head. He runs a car, a motorbike and a boat. Both Liz and Chick live in substantial Victorian stone properties, which are notoriously difficult to heat efficiently and both could do with advice on how to reduce their large domestic fuel bills.
