Westlife frontman Shane Filan has tipped Marcus as the most likely hopeful to leave the competition.
Speaking to Caroline Flack and Olly Murs on The Xtra Factor, the Irishman said Gary’s boy looked “uncomfortable” on the stage during his second song.
He said:“I enjoyed his first song but I think his second song, at the start of the song, the vocal was a bit low for him, but I thought his first performance was excellent. I think his vocal on the second song could have been better.
“I think he started off so low in the second one and I think it caught him off guard. It looked like he was uncomfortable.”
Another celebrity guest on The Xtra Factor panel Adrian Chiles added: “When he first appeared, I thought he was like Little Richard and a young Prince rolled into one on his first song and I think he has lived a bit, he has been a hairdresser, he knows what it is like to work and seems to be made of the right stuff to really make a go of it if he does win the whole thing.
“They were something not quite right about his second song but he is an exceptional talent.”
Marcus has been a popular contestant throughout his X Factor journey but health concerns about his throat were first raised a day ahead of the semi-final when he tweeted about a sore throat.
The 23-year-old smashed his Motown rendition to The Temptations’ classic My Girl with his smooth as silk performance.
However, the judges were less impressed in the second round, with Louis saying “there was something missing” and Kelly agreeing saying it “wasn’t one of your best vocals”
Speaking on The Xtra Factor, Marcus admitted his disappointment, saying: “I was a little bit upset before I went on because my throat was a bit sore but when I went on my throat croaked.
“I gave my very best and I hope that people see that and vote for me.”
