X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos is fast becoming the hottest new style icon around, with her sassy style and perfect figure the envy of many a woman.
Since storming onto TV screens in the first X Factor 2011 episode last weekend, Tulisa has rocked various looks from 1950s siren to sleek, styled glamazon.
If you want to steal her look then make sure to check out this guide from her stylist Gemma Sheppard, who reveals exactly what a lady needs as her wardrobe if she wants to pull off the Tulisa look.
1. A mac
A classic trench coach is a must-have according to stylist Gemma. “It’s an essential. It’s so versatile and can be worn from summer through to winter so it’s an economical buy.
“The high street is awash with them right now. Expect to see Tulisa wearing one to the studios at some point.”
2. A denim jacket
Tulisa has been photographed rocking the denim look over the summer months and this is one key trend that’s going to stick around for a while yet.
“Double denim is on-trend as is boho. There’s a real 70s vibe at the moment – I dressed Tulisa in lots of cute little jean jackets and panama hats for the music festivals this summer and she looked really cool. I’d recommend checking out vintage stores for old Wrangler originals too.”
3. A white shirt
Another wardrobe staple in Tulisa’s wardrobe is a crisp, white shirt, which is a really versatile item that can be dressed up or down.
“White shirts are more versatile that you’d imagine! You can wear a tank-top over the top for an American preppy look or if you’re feeling daring and love showing off your midriff, you can knot your shirt at the front,” Gemma explained.
4. An LBD
The little black dress is something every girl needs in her closet, and Tulisa has invested in quite a few for her various appearances and shows.
“It’s timeless and slimming,” stylist Gemma explained. “Your LBD can be livened up with colourful accessories and jewellery. As a golden rule, I’d suggest you either showcase your cleavage or legs – not both.”
SHE'S GOT STYLE:
5. A pashmina
The perfect item for covering yourself up in a flash, it’s a must-have for someone who’s in the public eye like Tulisa.
The X Factor judge’s stylist said: “The finer the weave, the more luxurious your pashmina will look. It can inject colour into an otherwise ordinary outfit and it can be tucked away in your handbag.”
6. Jeans
Anther absolute must-have in any girl’s wardrobe is a good pair of jeans - but you need to know what style to go for, or your trusty demins can quickly go from fab to faux pas.
“If you’re curvy avoid low-rise jeans like the plague. They create muffin tops so high-waisted jeans are far more flattering and create a corset-like effect sucking everything in, creating a cleaner silhouette.
“Boot-cuts tend to elongate the legs so are fab if you’re looking for extra length. Tulisa is a massive fan of skinny jeans and was born to wear them,” Gemma said.
7. Heels
Tulisa is never seen without her trusty skyscraper heels. “One of her favourite pairs has to be the quintessential YSL tribute heels. We also love Top Shop, Aldo and Nicholas Kirkwood for footwear,” Gemma said.
“If you’re strapped for cash then buy a pair of classic black, patent peep toe platforms for va-va voom sexiness. And if you want to pull out all the stops, pair them with some fishnet tights!”
8. Flat boots
Of course, we all need to rest our poor tootsies now and again, and when your feet feel like they can’t take another step, flats boots are ideal.
Cowboy boots are the X Factor judge’s particular favourite, stylist Gemma reveals. “Tulisa loves cowboy boots – she wore them lots over the summer at festivals. Everyone needs some comfort factor in their life sometimes.”
9. A belt
A good belt is the ideal accessory to have in your collection as it can be used with so many different outfits.
“Nothing clinches in the waist better. They’re great for creating a slimmer looking waist and jazzing up an outfit. Belts can be worn with jeans, over dresses, shirts and even jackets. There are no rules. Remember, fashion is to be enjoyed,” the stylist said.
10. A handbag
No girl is ready to go out without her trusty handbag on her arm – but make sure you’re picking one that’s big enough to hold all of your essentials.
Style expert Gemma recommends a tote bag for during the day and a clutch bag for evening events. “The iconic Birkin bag is fabulous - luckily the high-street has tonnes of copies. Switch things up by using a clutch in the evening; Tulisa has a whole array of them for red carpet events.”
