Hello Nightshifters
Well first of all I think I should start with a big hello to any of our friends reading this blog across the pond. I'm not talking about the people in Arran, I mean the United States of America because today is Independence Day - I am sure that is a country and western song, I used to go line dancing you know! True story - every week at the Charleston function room in Kilmarnock, there were frequent cries of "Oh I don’t want to go" "I hate Line Dancing" "Can we just miss it this week?" and the same replies came time after time "No mum you HAVE to take me" and take me she did without fail - I absolutely loved it. I must admit I am not too keen on the new craze sweeping the nation - Zumba! No, no, not for me, give me a grapevine to the right and a heel/toe/heel/toe anytime.
I am a huge fan of America, I had been a few times to Florida as a child and thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the way of life and the weather, so much so that before I got into television I worked as an entertainer on a cruise ship based out of Port Canaveral just south of Orlando and was fortunate enough to be onboard for the fourth of July celebrations, well there is only one place to be to actually enjoy this day and that is with a whole bunch of rooting, tooting, fire-work watching yanks! I worked for Disney and believe me they know how to entertain and party. So much so that I think we were still celebrating the fourth of July on the sixth, well that is if my memory serves me right due to all the champagne, wine and cocktails (in the same pint glass! I’m only joking - it was a half pint glass)
A few of my friends still work on cruise ships and in actual fact some of them work over the Christmas holiday. Now I couldn't think of anything worse than sitting on a beach on Christmas day opening my presents and enjoying a turkey salad dinner. You can say what you like about the weather in Scotland but let’s be honest - we do the winter well, even if it is in July!!!
I'm off caravanning on the South Coast of England this week which will be intertwined with the concert in Hyde Park I've been raving about and getting excited about for months - the ultimate 80's music cheese-fest, Kylie, Jason, Sonia, Bananarama, Steps to name a few, I will have a full report in my blog next time.
Until next time.......
Liam x
