There’s only one thing on everyone’s mind this week and it’s simply The Weather!! Hasn’t it been magnificent?!! It’s been reminiscent of the so called long hot summer of ’76, what a year that was. I turned eighteen that year, the very same year the late Steve Jobs created the Apple Computer Co. The very first computer off the production line cost a cool 660 dollars incidentally. Sylvester Stallone was packing them in at the cinema with the very first Rocky movie. Also worth a mention is the arrival in ’76 of Lindsay Wagner on our TV sets as The Bionic Woman the very same year that Concorde officially took to the skies, happy days indeed.
During this extraordinary warm spell I took a run down the coast several times to my favourite seaside fish and chip shop situated on the harbour’s edge in Troon, situated just alongside the town’s fish-market, it’s quite simply fabulous. The one thing that separates “The Wee Hurry” from so many others is the freshness, with a capital F. If you’re ever in the area please give it a try but be prepared to wait 10 – 15 minutes as the cooking staff clearly pride themselves on preparing your food to order, it doesn’t get any fresher than that!!
Just one more memory from 1976 before I go, the price of petrol at the pump during that memorable summer was just 76p per Gallon................not litres remember but per Gallon. I don’t know about you but when I think about 76 pence per gallon it quite simply takes my breath away!
Excuse me please but I must go find my inhaler!! Ha Ha
Catch you very soon on the STV Nightshift
Cheers
Jim x
