Prince William’s old hairdresser to get her hands on Jedward quiff

A multi-award winning Scottish hairdresser who has cut hair for Prince William and Tiger Woods has been chosen as a backstage stylist for this year’s Eurovision song contest in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Charlie Taylor, who owns a chain of salons including one in St. Andrews, was picked by the show’s sponsors Schwarzkopf to represent the UK. She will cut the hair for boyband Blue who will be hoping for more than ‘nil points’ with their ballad ‘I Can’.

Her services have also attracted the interest of the Portuguese camp and the Irish entry, ‘Lipstick’, sung by the inescapable X Factor duo Jedward.

Although the Eurovision contest’s popularity has waned in recent years, it’s an opportunity that Charlie felt she couldn’t knock back:

“I’ve been very lucky. The sponsor of the Eurovision contest is a company I work with all over the world. They contacted me and said we would like you to represent the UK.

“I’m very happy to do it, although I won’t be singing. You can be sure of that.

“I wasn’t a huge fan up until now but I have watched it most years. I’ll be pretty involved this year. The hair is such an important part of someone’s image, especially on stage.”

Charlie, originally from Newport on Tay in Fife, has salons in St Andrews, Dundee, Perth & Bridge of Allen and has been hairdresser to the stars since opening her first salon in Perth in 1987.

She has even welcomed a fresh-faced Prince William into her salon and cut the hair of golfing legend Tiger Woods.

Charlie said: “My salon is in the golfing capital of the world in St Andrews, so I’ve had everyone from Tiger woods to the newly married Prince William.”

But one celebrity couple who she can’t wait to get her hands on are Irish twins Jedward. After coming sixth on The X Factor in 2009 the pair – famous for their trademark quiffs – will represent their country on the Eurovision stage should they make it past the initial qualifying rounds.

Although Charlie’s first priority will be getting the boys from Blue’s barnets into shape, she insists she would love to have a go at the infamous Jedward hair.

She added: “There is plenty for me to get my hands on there. I’d love to do something with it. I saw them in a magazine once with something completely different. If I can get my hands on them I will.”
