Although the days of Speedos, socks and sandals may be long gone, British men still struggle when it comes to picking appropriate holiday wear.
Finding something that is smart but lightweight and cool can be difficult and many are afraid to shed their black and greys and opt for bright and colourful clothing.
The Hour’s stylist Tori MacKenzie picked out some summer looks for men that won’t break the bank but will have you feeling like a true aristocrat.
She said: “Try as they may the majority of British men tend to loose their cool when it comes to summer dressing.”
“But these looks are great and finding the perfect balance between smart and casual."
The beach look is notoriously difficult to master for men. How does one look casual enough to go a paddle but smart enough to head for a bar afterwards? Tori suggest using a variety of fabrics and colours.
Model Michael is wearing a Polo Shirt from Hollister (£39), Denim shorts from River Island (£19.99), a brown Fossil belt (£20) and Flip flops from Tesco (£5).
Tori said: “This is for going down to the beach whilst looking a little bit smarter. You can always stick some Speedos on underneath.
“The polo neck is really good for summer. It’s smart and funky enough for a stroll down to the beach.”
If you are looking for something a bit smarter that you can take into town, why not try mixing a lightweight shirt with some light coloured shorts.
Brian is wearing a cool pink shirt from American Apparel (£48), light coloured shorts from Next (£28) and some navy blue plimsoll shoes from Primark (£20).
Tori said of the look: “This is a little bit smarter for the day. The shorts are a great colour and the shirt really compliments this skin tone.”
Lastly, it’s never okay to go out at night with your short shorts on and your top off – no matter how hot it is. Tori suggests wearing something sensible but remember you’re on holiday, mix it up.
Model Keiran is wearing a smart tailored jacket from Slater’s (£89), a green t-shirt from Ruby Vintage Tuesday (£10), trousers from H&M (£25) and, finishing off the look, flips flops from Next (£15).
“This is for if you want to keep it casual but remembering you’re on holiday,” said Tori. “It’s formal enough to be going out to town in.
“If you want to invest in one thing this summer, get a really nice tailored jacket.”
