With the summer now upon us, it’s not just the adults who want to look good in the sun. Stylist Tori MacKenzie had some fashion tips for kids of all ages to keep them looking their best during the sunny weather. She said:
“Kids nowadays know what they want to wear. They have strong opinions and know what suits them.”
First up modelling a good look for five-year-olds were Keph and Georgia. Keph had on a £6 Next hat, a striped Cos t-shirt for £12 and £5 shorts from Tesco. Georgia was wearing an American Apparel sweatshirt for £18, a £12 Tesco jumpsuit and £5 Marks & Spencer shoes. Tori said:
“This look is really, really easy for summer. Wee boys love their stripes with the little cropped trousers and the wee girl’s jumpsuit is a great colour with the navy, and there’s gorgeous detail on the little glittery shoes.”
Next up was Charley modelling a look for seven to eight year olds. She was wearing a Sugar Dolls Couture dress for £55 and £2 glittery Primark shoes. The dress is formal for the summer and can be worn during the party season, and the shoes are a gorgeous colour.
Last up were Bradley and India wearing a look suited to 11 to 13 year olds. Tori said:
“This is the age where you can really start having fun with the trends in the summer.”
India was modelling an £18 dress from Next and shoes from Zara for £15. Bradley had on a Gap shirt for £12.95, Marks & Spencer shorts for £17.95 and £14 Gladiato sandals from Next. The dress uses colour blocking, which is bang on trend just now, and the shorts go really well with the shirt and the Gladiator sandals.
Tori’s top tips on how to keep your kids cool in the sun include not spending too much money and letting them have a little bit of say. There are also lots of clothes out there which have multiple uses and are really versatile. It’s also important to protect children in the sun with hats, kaftans and sun cream.
