The Royal Wedding is almost upon us and speculation abounds as to the type of hat the noble women will be wearing on the big day. John Lewis’ Tricia Chennell dropped by The Hour studios to explain the latest fashion.
A great trend among younger women these days is the fascinator. On a hot summer’s day these are cooler than a hat, but will still raise the eyes. Kate Middleton herself is a fan and the trends ripple out from her.
Tricia said: “Every so often old trends come back again, so we’ve had the full circle of cocktail hats, big hats, and we’re back now to fascinators.”
So a lot of Kate’s friends will likely be wearing fascinators, but for the older guests a cocktail hat is more likely. These usually have an elastic band inside so they won’t blow off in the wind, but are large enough to protect your skin from harmful glare of the sun.
Kate Middleton’s mother, and of course the Queen, will be wearing hats to the wedding and there are countless styles to choose from. When picking a hat the most important thing is that it goes well with the shape of your face.
As far as colour is concerned, cornflower blues, fuschias and simple black and white hats are summer favourites.
