Silk, one of the most indulgent fabrics, is the hot look for spring and summer, and with really affordable garments hitting the market, it’s a look worth investing in.
Fashion stylist Lynne McCrossan always has her finger firmly on the fashion pulse and she’s been scoping out the hottest looks and creating high street alternatives.
“What we’ve done is we’ve taken looks out of Black Swan and a little bit of Dirty Dancing...," she explained. "Nude tops, that what you want to do when creating this look, have a top that looks like you’ve made come from the studio, so as much body con as you can possibly muster."
The first look she created was a floaty, ballerina-style outfit. Teaming up a nude top which is £9.99 from Dorothy Perkins, a wine-coloured chiffon mid-length skirt, £38 from Topshop, and nude floral peep toe shoes, £55 from Faith, gave model Carolyn a relaxed by dressy look, perfect for lunch with the girls.
The next look was a retro 70s-style, which was inspired by the catwalk shows last year. “Spring/summer catwalk collections in September were telling us that the 70s (looks) and white suits were going to be all the rage. This is going to be really easy for he office and it’s perfect to put silk underneath coming into spring/summer, because it’s cool.”
Lynne dressed Carol Anne in a white suit, with the jacket and trousers costing £79.99 and £39.99 from Zara, a brown silk top from River Island and wooden chunky wedges which are £46 from Next.
Finally the stylist created a bohemian look for model Hazel, inspired by the movie-of-the-moment, Black Swan. “Hazel’s look is probably the easiest that we can do with all of the three (styles), a lovely floaty shirt over the top of some skinny jeans,” Lynne explained.
A rose coloured silk shirt, £29.50 from Marks and Spencer, teamed up with skinny jeans, £40 from Warehouse, gladiator sandals, £45 from Miss KG and a brown handbag, £55 from Debenhams, completed the look.
Lynne also picked some other outfits that caught her eye, including a grey dress, £39.99 from River Island, a white chiffon skirt, £43 from Debenhams and a white sleeveless chiffon skirt, £38 from Jane Norman, and a 100 per cent silk gold dress, £65 from Warehouse.
