Mark Sproston's top tips for a perfect shave

According to shaving professional Mark Sproston, modern men aren't spending enough time shaving and something needs to be done. A quick swipe with the blade after you shower simply isn't enough, and he wants to bring the classic wet shave back into fashion.

Speaking to STV’s The Hour, he said: “Most guys don’t tend to take much time over shaving these days, and what we try and do is slow it all down so you actually get more of a comfortable shave.”

To do this, begin by splashing hot water on your face or shave as soon as you get out of the shower. Better yet, soak in a hot bath and let the steam open your pores.

A facial scrub will then open the pores even further, and applying oil to your face for 20 seconds will soak the roots.

You can apply the shaving cream with your hands, but a brush is better as this lifts up the hair.

If you prepare your skin in this way you will find you achieve a closer, more comfortable shave.

If you’d like a traditional wet shave yourself, Mark will usually take 40 minutes to perfect your skin. Or, with Father’s Day coming up, a voucher for a 2-day course is also available.
