Glasgow’s famous King Tut’s music venue has previously launched the careers of artist such as Oasis, Coldplay and Travis, and continues to act as a platform for young Scottish musicians.
Eager to join that illustrious list are Glasgow indie band Scarlet Shift who play the iconic venue on August 25. Despite sell out shows at the Classic Grand and airplay on Radio One, the band admits that playing at King Tut’s is a dream come true.
Lead guitarist Andy Black told The Hour: “We have always wanted to play there [King Tut’s]. All the big bands have played there and it would be a great achievement.
The band – comprising of Andy, singer and keyboard player Lewis Murphy and bass guitarist Adam Teiger – hail from Glasgow’s southside and have been tipped to make their big break in 2012.
Influences include Kings of Leon, Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, Explosions in the Sky and Arcade Fire.
Their new single ‘Lion Needs Courage’ has been recently released and is available to buy on iTunes.
Andy added: “We have just recently recorded our new EP ‘Give up the ghost’ in the west end, and we’ve just been launching that during the last month at the Nice n’ Sleazy venue.
“We were also on radio one a couple of nights ago. So we have just been plugging away at the new EP."
Catch Scarlet Shift at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut when they support American band Face to Face on August 25.
