The Gospel Truth Choir perform Amazing Grace

Scotland’s most acclaimed gospel choir wows The Hour with their jazzy, beatboxing, gospel rendition of the John Newton hymn Amazing Grace.

The group were founded by ex-KT Tunstall backing vocalist Tracey Braithwaite after her friend, BAFTA-nominee Paul Leonard Morgan, asked if she could put together a gospel choir for his wedding.

Since the initial celebrity wedding, the group, then named The Gospel Truth Choir, have gone from strength to strength becoming the gospel to choir to beat in Scotland.

Drawing on members from a 40-strong pool, this niche group have sung with the likes of Ricky Ross and Lorraine McIntosh,  Paul Carrack, The Skids, Codeine Velvet Club, Horse, Karine Polwart and performed at a celebrity wedding which is just too secret to mention!

The founding member Tracey spoke of the Scottish gospel music scene: “There is not a lot going on in Scotland but what we do is really special, I think because we are a group of friends as well as performers.

“A lot of us have our own performance but when we come together something special happens.”

The choir are about to begin recording their own album, which will host a variety of gospel-loving songs written by Scots.

You can also catch the choir as they tour with The Skids at the O2 ABC in Glasgow on March 5, in the Alhambra in Dunfermline on March 6 or in The Ironworks in Inverness on March 7.
