American funny man Reginald D Hunter has reached the pinnacle of his comedy career. The stand-up comedian recently wrapped up his very own DVD which hits shelves next month, just in time for that annual seasonal shopping spree. This little gem promises to keep the family giggling all through the festive season as Reginald rolls out his best performance for his ever-expanding fan base.
However, he was quick to admit that it’s us northern folks who own the most penetrable sense of humour:
“I find that in the UK, the further north you go from London, the more able people are to handle tough information, tough jokes. Truthful stuff. I figure it has something to do with the cold weather. If you spend time in a country where it gets dark around three thirty for six months what am I going to say that’s going to hurt you?”
He has a point. Scottish audiences are easy to tease and willing to accept the boot in the name of fun. But what of that talked about Scottish heckle?
“I guess somebody could heckle in the audience and if they’re Scottish I guess that qualifies. I don’t know that that differentiates with you know with somebody else who heckles me from another country.”
Perhaps his laid back attitude disguises the enormous accomplishment of breaking into a notoriously difficult industry. Reginald has dominated our television screens on stand-up shows and as a member of guest panels for years. Yet his attitude is ever the same when asked about his newest endeavour with the release of his very first DVD:
“I think everybody in my camp, we gave a decent account of ourselves. We did the best we could do, so if we get our butt wooped for that then we can still sleep good at night.”
Keeping up with the theme of this week’s reality television shows Michelle quizzed Reginald on whether he had any future plans to take part in a show like Strictly Come Dancing. The reply was short and sweet as Reginald revealed “I have an immense appreciation and respect for the art form of dance. So, no.”
Reginalds DVD is set for release on November 14 and is the perfect stocking filler for a comedy lover or a relative in need of a little laughter. With a reputation like his, you know it’s going to be worth every penny.
