Actor David Hayman has arranged a one-off comedy night extravaganza with his friends at the O2 Academy in Glasgow to raise money for his charity, Spirit Aid.
The charity is a completely volunteer organisation, which was set up to support children and young people around the world by running humanitarian projects in places like Kosovo, Guinea Bissau, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Scotland.
David said: “The revenue coming into charities has dropped because of the credit crunch so we need to put on wonderful nights like this. It’s with 20 of the top comedians in Scotland so I’m really looking forward to it.”
David is doing a one-off stand-up performance at the comedy night, and in preparation he had a masterclass lesson with three top comedians and performed at an open mic night:
“One thing I took away from the masterclass was to learn to be confident. You can’t go on being scared, or at least give the impression that you’re not anyway.”
The actor has never done stand-up before, and he was absolutely terrified before the open mic night: “There will be 1400 people at the O2 Academy. After the rehearsal I feel a lot better about it, and I’ve only got to do five minutes.”
A Summer Comedy Gala will be on at the O2 Academy in Glasgow on August 29 at 7pm.
