Fratellis front runner Jon Lawler is back to show his more glamorous side as he fulfils his love for 60s boy, girl duets.
Teaming up with Scottish singer/songwriter Lou Hickey after getting itchy feet to return to the music industry during the bands break, Jon seized on the chance to write a track for Hickey’s album.
Lawler explains how the unusual duo, now known as Codeine Velvet Club, began: “Fratellis - we are taking a bit of a break, and this sort of all happened by accident I guess.”
“We got together to write a song for Lou and it sort of grew quite organically from that song.”
Always the worker, Lawler ended up creating an album with Hickey which he states is hard to place within any one genre of music: “When making the album, it was an attempt to fit as many little bits and pieces into as small a space as possible.”
The album combines pop, jazz, rock 'n' roll and even some classical influences thrown in there for good measure.
Lawler made his name with The Fratellis when their debut album Costello Music reached number two in the UK album charts in 2006 and included hits such as Chelsea Dagger and Henrietta.
The band decided to take a break in March of this year following a tour of their second album Here We Stand.
Lawler admits that the band have no future plans together at the moment: “The plan is that there is no plan which is actually a good place to be in.”
The debut album will be released on December 28 with the lead single Vanity kills.
