Taio Cruz is the mastermind behind many of the big artists in the charts but after winning a Brit Award for a song he wrote straight out of college, the Londoner has put no boundaries on his future career.
Speaking to STV, the 24-year-old revealed he would like to work with some of 2009 chart-toppers.
“I would love to work with Take That, I think they are great,” Cruz said. “I would love to work with Kings of Leon.
“Something that people would just be a little bit ‘wow, I didn’t expect that to come together’. As long as it is in the realms of really good pop music.”
Recently hitting the UK number one spot himself with Break Your Heart back in September, Cruz got straight back to work and is now set to release is new single No Other One, this Monday.
“It is good that everything is moving in a very positive direction,” he said. “I just keep working and keep writing the songs – that’s what I was doing on the first album Departure and now on the new album Rokstarr – people are just hearing more and more of the music I have created.”
Cruz first rose to international recognition last year after penning Will Young’s hit Your Game.
“It was actually the first song I wrote when I left college and then it got cut by Will Young and then I won a Brit Award so it was really like ‘wow where do I go from there.”
The R&B artist obviously didn’t ponder that thought for too long as he was soon back making a debut album for himself, which went on to sell 150,000 copies, as well as penning many great hits for other artists such as Tinchy Stryder/Amelle smash hit Never Leave You.
The multi-talented artist divides his time between the studio and stage but insist that he is equally passionate about both.
“I like them all pretty equally, they are all aspects of who I am,” he said.
“I like being in the studio because it is being very creative and I get to work with all the different artists. But being on stage is good fun as well, seeing screaming fans jumping up and down.”
Simon Cowell called Cruz’s album Departure one of the best albums of 2008. With his recent number one and his track record of producing hits for other artists, it seems Mr Cowell may just be on the money once again.
