JLS excited about Glasgow MOBOs

The MOBOs are in town and former The X Factor contestants JLS have made the trip to Glasgow to perform and compete for two awards.

The band – who saw their debut single Beat Again take the number one slot – are up for Best Song and also Best UK Newcomer, where they will compete again with The X Factor winner Alexandra Burke.

Aston, JB, Marvin and Oritse dropped by to talk about their whirlwind eight months since they performed in the reality show’s final and even treated Stephen and Aggie to an impromptu a cappella version of Beat Again.

“Glasgow, we love this place,” said Oritse. “We’ve got so much supporters here and we’ve performed here many a time. It’s just fantastic to be a part of it.”

Aston added: “We’ve been together for two years but we’ve been doing this for everyone to see for the past eight months. It has gone from bigger to better. We have been nominated against people that have been in the game a long time”

The boys find themselves up against the likes of new Sugababe Jade Ewen, Chipmunk, Tinchy Stryder and N-Dubz, but insist that they aren’t in Glasgow expecting to take home any prizes and are just happy to have been invited.

“The thing for us is we’ve only had one single out,” said JB. “We haven’t came here to expect anything, we’ve came to enjoy the night.

“It’s our first awards ceremony and we’re performing as well, so we are looking forward to that. Hopefully the night goes well.

“There are so many people and artists as well, so it’s a higher judging panel that we have to try to impress. Everyone is supportive like N-Dubz and Taio Cruz, they’ve got a lot of support for us.”

JLS performed in front of millions on STV weekly on The X Factor, so are more recognisable than some other acts taking part in the awards.

Whilst the popularity may help them to sell singles and create plenty of media interest, there are some drawbacks, especially when it comes to trying to relax away from work.

“We were in Glasgow town centre yesterday trying to do a bit of shopping, but it was just a bad idea,” said Marvin. “We were walking down Buchanan Street and we had to jet around.”

After the awards, the band’s new single - Everybody in Love - is due out on November 1 and a new album scheduled for release on November 9.
