Former Eastenders actress Jessie Wallace and Coronation Street bad guy Brian Capron have teamed up for the 25th anniversary of tap stage show Stepping Out which dances its way into Glasgow’s King's Theatre this week.
The play revolves around eight students who attend weekly tap classes in a dingy North London dance school, but this is all a backdrop for the relationships and interactions of these very different people.
Wallace, who played Kat Slater in Eastenders, ironically had to wear a fat suit after losing more than two stone in weight.
“I was quite overweight but now I’ve lost a lot and will have to wear a body suit. I haven’t tried it yet but it’s going to be hilarious,” she said.
Her co-star in the play Capron, most well-known for his role as serial killer Richard Hilman on Corrie, admitted it was a tough routine to learn the moves despite both he and Wallace having appeared on reality show Strictly Come Dancing.
“This is the first time I have ever done tap dancing,” he said.
“I just went in and had a couple of lessons on my own, it didn’t really help. This is so complicated. This is the kind of thing you would spend a year doing to get up to scratch; we are doing it in three weeks.
“We do two hours of dancing when we come in every morning and its absolutely draining. We're all pouring with sweat. I've never worked like this in my life…I've got to learn to play the piano too," he said.
Stepping Out opens in the King's Theatre, Glasgow on Tuesday, September 15.
