Superheroes help inspire kids to learn about the environment

An environmental expert has written an adventure-packed novel to try to get kids passionate about saving the planet.

Dr. David Reay’s novel, Your Planet Needs You! A Kids’ Guide to Going Green, features a superhero who doesn’t have a clue about the planet – until the kids show him ways to help save it.

A fun but informative read, which is full of top tips for energy conservation, the book is designed to help children feel they are in a position of power when it comes to making a difference to the world they live in.

“The superhero is really the idea of a super adult; someone with the ability to fly, someone with super strength. They have all these super powers, but no good against climate change,” explained Reay.

“It is actually two children, Henry and Flora, who show him how he can fight climate change and actually guide him towards the solution,” he added.

Reay is a senior lecturer at the Department of Geosciences at Edinburgh University, who has worked in climatic science for 15 years, and has previously written a book aimed at adults, called Climate Change Begins at Home.
