Two dogs, a mother and her blind son, are looking for a new home after spending time at Second Chance kennels in Fife.
Border collies Lily, 21 months old, and son Blue, 15 weeks, were donated to the centre several months ago, when their owner decided she could no longer keep them. Instead of sending Lily and Blue off to separate families their previous owner decided the two had to be kept together.
Ena Conyon and her husband Frank built the Second Chance kennels in 1994 and continue to re-home and help abandoned dogs. They have successfully re-homed 2768 dogs and puppies to date, and both believe Lily and Blue are worth the hard work involved in caring for them.
Speaking to The Hour, Ena said: “We only have 12 or 15 kennels at the centre so we know our dogs inside out, and we know who we want to have them.
“The first thing to get across about Lily and Blue is don’t take them because you feel sorry for them. Because Blue is blind, any potential owner has to watch stairs and you cant move your furniture because he will bang into it.”
“They are really great though, and we just want the pair of them to go to a good home.”
Mother Lily is expectedly protective of her son and even helps with his condition, wearing a bell on her collar to make Blue aware of where she is at all times. She will also step in-between If another dog approaches the vulnerable youngster.
Both dogs are free to a good home, but Ena insists that any suitable owners should be prepared to sacrifice for the dogs, and for Blues blindness. So anyone with lots of stairs or a tendency to move the house about is a no-no!
If you are interested in giving a loving home to Lily and Blue please contact Ena and Frank at Second Chance kennels directly via the details found on their website or call 01592 771933 .
