Actor Simon Pegg has revealed that he tried to sneak a mention of the famous Scots square sausage into the final cut of the new Star Trek remake.
The Englishman plays ‘Scottie’ in the blockbuster, directed by Lost creator JJ Abrams, and told STV’s movie correspondent Grant Lauchlan that he had tons of fun with Scottish references that few outside the UK would understand.
Pegg also told how he almost cheekily blurted out a particular four-letter obscenity, well-known among many north of the border.
He said: “The one thing I put in there as well for the Scottish audience was one of the first things Scottie says is ‘Get tae…’ But I didn’t finish off obviously. Of course Scottie would say that to an annoying little alien.
“There was another bit where I actually mentioned square sausage but it got cut out.”
Join Grant on STV’s five thirty show next week for an in-depth Star Trek special ahead of the film’s nationwide cinematic release.
