Darius Campbell co-presenting STV’s The Hour

Scottish music, stage and screen star Darius Campbell is co-presenting The Hour from Wednesday to Friday this week.

Darius will join regular presenter Michelle McManus on The Hour sofa, as the pair present the daily instalment of celebrity interviews and lifestyle features, including chatting to former Formula One world champion, Nigel Mansel and meeting the owner of a dog that had 16 puppies!

He’ll no doubt settle easily into the role, being a well-known TV star himself. Darius first came to public attention after taking part in both Popstars and Pop Idol, which he excelled on.

Despite being offered a multi-million pound record deal by Simon Cowell, Darius decided to turn it down and instead signed with Grammy Award-winning U2 producer Steve Lillywhite.

The talented singer and songwriter then went on to achieve a number one hit with his song Colourblind, and his debut album went platinum. To date Darius has had an impressive five UK Top Ten singles and his second album achieved gold status.

But it’s not just in the music world that Darius has excelled. The multi-talented performer has also wowed audiences in many stage shows, including Chicago, in which he played the role of lawyer Billy Flynn, and productions of Gone With the Wind and Guys and Dolls, in which played the lead roles

As if that wasn’t enough, Darius then went on to star in and win the TV show Popstar to Operastar, which challenged recording artists to turn into opera singers in just a few weeks. This then led to his debut role in the opera Carmen with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London.

And the future looks just as busy for Darius, who is set to wow crowds in Scotland on Saturday, July 31, when he takes part in the family fun day The Glasgow Show, and is currently producing a show The History of the Big Bands. Phew!

Darius, who is recovering well after being involved in a recent car accident in Spain, said: “I’m really looking forward to co-presenting The Hour with Michelle this week. It’s great being back working in Glasgow and I’m not going to let a broken neck get in my way!”

Michelle added: “I’m so excited to be working with Darius on The Hour. Darius has already achieved so much in his career, so I’m sure he will take presenting a live show in his stride.”

You can catch Darius and Michelle from July 28-30 on The Hour, which is on STV from 5pm. Keep updated with all the latest from the show on the website stv.tv/thehour.
