Street dance troupe Diversity exploded into the public eye ten months ago after they pipped Scotland’s superstar Susan Boyle to the post in the final of Britain’s Got Talent.
The dance act have had an extremely busy time since winning with numerous performances including the prestigious prize of performing at the Royal Variety Show in front the her Royal Highness.
Group leader Ashley Bango can’t believe how hectic their first ten months has been for the group: “Since winning we’ve been on a rollercoaster, we’ve been on the Britain’s Got Talent tour, we’ve done a street dance film, we’re on our own tour right now, we’ve done countless performances, we’ve performed abroad, we’ve done so much. We’re just so thankful for everyone that voted for us.”
The group weren’t convinced they would win following the phenomenon surrounding Susan Boyle, with pint-sized dancer Perri Luc-Kiely saying: “Definitely, I thought Susan Boyle was definitely going to win and when we got to the final three, we we’re all happy to have got there.”
Upon reaching the finals SuBo had become an overnight worldwide sensation, leading Bango to believe that they didn’t stand a chance: “When we first entered it was always that hope and that feeling of we could do this. But as it got further in and the emergence of all these amazing acts especially SuBo we thought there is no way.”
Now six dates into their sell out twenty-five date arena tour, Diversity are continually hard at work to make their show one of a kind and please there fans.
“We are focusing on what is at hand right now, we’re focussing on the tour and making that as good as it can be," Bango added. "So far, we’ve performed six venues and got six standing ovations, for us it’s like whoa, we walking out at the end and saying thank you to everyone single person in the room.”
The key to Diversity’s success is that they are diverse - a factor Bango thinks allows the fans to relate to the group.
“We’re all different, we’re diverse, people can relate to each member in the group. We’ve got sold out venues, there’s people waiting outside to get tickets, hundreds of people.”
So, what next for Britain’s most famous dance troupe? World domination, well only time will tell… we sure hope so.
