For years redheads have had a bit of a raw deal in the cool stakes, but things seem to finally be changing with flame hair right on trend this season.
Robin Colwell, the colour director at Sassoon hairdressers in Glasgow, said that she has seen a huge increase in the number of people coming to the salon to have their locks dyed different shades of red.
She said: “Red is definitely in. The amount of people that are coming in is amazing. (They’re) ready for that change definitely, and to be more individual.”
Red hair is most commonly found in the western fringes of Europe, with Scotland, Ireland, Wales and England leading the pack with the most redheads.
There are a whole load of celebrities who are now sporting flame-coloured locks too, including top model Lily Cole, and Florence and the Machine singer Florence Welch - no doubt adding to the popularity of the hair colour.
And Robin says that people of all skin tones and colourings can pull the bold colour off if they fancy it, it just depends on the hue that you opt for. But she warned that those going for a dramatic change should make sure to talk their decision over with a trained colourist first: “If you do it at home it can go completely wrong! You don’t want to do it at home, you really want to see a professional.”
If you’d like to try out a new red style, stylists at Sassoon in Glasgow can advise you. Find out more about the salon from their website www.sassoon.com.
