Mother’s Day gifts: make your own present

If you’re stuck in a rut over what to buy your mum this Sunday, fear not, as crafts expert Rachel Henderson shows how easy it can be to make presents.

Rachel has the ideal way to create your very own gifts for mum using two different techniques, egg shell mosaic and ceramic mosaic.

Items you require for the designs:

•    Glass bowl with food colouring
•    Eggs
•    Strong glue
•    Tweezers
•    Paper plates
•    Glass bowl with water
•    Grout
•    Bag of ceramic pieces
•    Tile paint
•    Paint brush
•    Rubber gloves
•    Pallet knife
•    Flowers / plant

For the egg shell mosaic:

1.    Start off by cracking the eggs, then wash the shells and break them into small parts.
2.    With the broken shell pieces place them into a bath of food colouring to dye.
3.    Once the shell has dried, stick the pieces to a glass vase to create a design of your choice using tweezers and super glue.
4.    Allow the glue to dry and finally fill the vase with some beautiful flowers to set the scene.

For the ceramic mosaic:

1.    Pick some old household ceramic objects such as an old plate, mugs, wall tiles etc
2.    Break up these items using a hammer with the ceramics inside a plastic bag. Be careful looking out for any sharp edges.
3.    Take a plant pot and by using tile glue, stick the ceramic shapes onto the pot.
4.    Once the glue has dried, use some grout to fill in the gaps in between each of the cups.
5.    Fill the plant pot with a plant or flower of your choice.
