Glasgow is paving the way for London and New York as the stylish new Citizen M hotel on Glasgow's Renfrew Street opened its doors. Among the visitors were design duo Colin and Justin, who definitely gave it their seal of approval.
Colin said: “This is the third international hotel from a new chain that’s already been named the trendiest hotel brand in the world for the past twenty years.”
Justin added: “It calls itself a new kind of hotel for mobile citizens of the world.”
Full of striking colour and designer furniture, the hotel is designed to be comfortable and stylish, and it won’t break the bank. Hotel manager Sam Sheridan said:
“Basically Citizen M is a hotel that provides affordable luxury, the idea being that rooms are affordable and yet you can stay in this luxurious environment. The living spaces as you walk round have been designed so people can relax and really treat it like their own living room. I wish my living room looked like this.”
Two Citizen M hotels are already open in Amsterdam, with another two planned to open in London and New York later this year. The hotel chain chose to open in Glasgow first because they believed the city reflected the character of their hotel.
Sam added: “Glasgow is a very cultural and design-led city. Massive conferences come here, concerts, you know the vibe of the city matches this brand completely. The next stop is going to be London, after that will be New York but opening in Glasgow first is a fantastic first place in the UK.”
Among the Vitra-designed furniture are styles that had been exhibited in New York almost 60 years ago, but which have become more popular thanks to artists like Lady Gaga.
In the bedrooms themselves, the small space is made up for by comfortable design and a remote control that can alter the atmosphere in the room with the touch of a button.
