As part of interior designer John Amabile’s ongoing mission to revamp your home, he took to the hallway of The Hour's show home to reveal how a bit of TLC can make it less functional and more liveable.
“First impressions count,” he said. “Your hallway should make visitors want to come in and stay in.
“I’ll be introducing texture and detail to corridor walls; break up long boring walkways; and introduce mirror and art and furniture in little stops throughout the area, making sure that your hallway is the perfect introduction to your home.”
To do this, position mirrors on your hallway walls to make the most of the available light. A well lit hallway will be more welcoming to visitors and mirrors also add texture to walls. The mirror, table lamps and chair set in the show home are from C. Webster and Sons.
Consider hanging art or wallcoverings like those from Tektura to continue this theme, and position furniture in larger spaces to make them more comfortable.
Finally, the curtains in the show home are by Wind.
John added: “So, in hallways, open the door to the right first impression. Break up corridors with textured wall coverings and add mirror and furniture. Treat it like a room, not just a walk through. Sit down and stay a while.”
