In a new strand on The Hour, star interior designer John Amabile is applying his magic touch to an award winning show home. In this first part, he introduces his model home and gives a little hint of what’s in store over the coming weeks.
“From feature wall coverings and stunning fabrics, I’ll show you what’s in, what’s out, what’s hot, and what’s not. In this home, I’m going to take each area and discuss its design.
“In the dining room we’ll be talking about difficult corners and storage, wall arts and mirror, and look at table settings to make sure that you’re dining with delight.
“Kitchen family rooms are fast becoming the most popular and used rooms in our homes. To get it right the elements are good flooring, extra surfaces like breakfast bars, but never sacrifice style or durability.”
Moving through to the hall, he said: “First impressions count. Your hallway should make visitors want to come in and stay in. I’ll be introducing some texture and detail to corridor walls, showing you how to break up long boring corridors by introducing mirror and homely pieces of furniture.”
In the living room, he said: “We now use our living rooms like going to the movies. I’m going to show you that it’s not all about size when talking about televisions and how to create a design that’s not too distracting while viewing. But most importantly, I want you to have the best seat in the house.”
When it comes to designing bedrooms, John was using two rooms as examples.
“We’ve all stayed in stunning hotel bedrooms and wished we could take them home,” he said. “Well, it’s just as easy to create it for yourself. I’ll show you that with a stunning headboard, matching bedside tables and lamps, and sumptuous bedding, you can have boutique chic.”
Up in the loft, he’s rejecting the draughty storage space for something a bit more comfortable: “Add value to your home by creating extra space in your loft for loft living.
“I’ll be making the right decision, showing you how to use wall covering, maximising on space with the perfect furniture and keeping it cosy even though there’s no where to hang some curtains.”
So we’ve a lot to look forward to here on The Hour.
John added: “From living to dining room, from kitchen to bedroom, I’ll show you how it’s done.”
