Washing machine the favourite invention? Not for The Hour viewers!

Women’s favourite invention is the washing machine, while men love their computer, according to a recent survey - but viewers of STV’s lifestyle show The Hour would beg to differ, according to the show’s official Facebook page.

We asked what the best and worst inventions ever created are – and we can reveal that very few women agreed that the trusty old washing machine was pretty far down the list!

The most popular items with The Hour viewers were phones and iPods, as well as a few less conventional items.

Danielle Ritchie posted:”My iPod [is my favourite invention] I could happily live without my phone. I go to sleep listening to my iPod it's always in my ear even if nothing is playing.”

Mandy Melrose meanwhile thinks the opposite sex is the worst invention ever, simply posting “men”. Ouch, that’s a bit harsh!

Most male viewers meanwhile said they couldn’t live without their phone, but Daniel Poole had a novel response, writing: “The best invention is the dishwasher, by dishwasher I mean women lol” [sic].

More comments can be found below. Do you want to tell us your favourite invention? Leave a comment on The Hour’s Facebook page.

  • Jennifer Main: “The doctors surgery as it never has appointments and is rarely open.”
  • Laura-Jane Sherry: “Mobile phone - best and worst invention ever!”
  • Carolanne Haffie: “iPhone! Sometimes don't have to put laptop on for days as iPhone does the job.”
  • Stewart Milne: “My LG .I couldn't live without it.”
  • James Bain: “My van for our camping trip all over Scotland.”
