The Hour spent the day at Perth Racecourse’s Charities Race Day, and with Prince Charles and Camilla Duchess of Rothesay also in attendance, jeans and trainers just will not do.
Stylist Tori MacKenzie was on hand with some top race day fashion tips, and she had three models to show off some classy outfits. She spoke to John MacKay and Michelle McManus about what to wear to such a big event. She said:
“I think because it’s a charity event you can go all out and be as extravagant as you want to. There’s no set dress code but obviously you have to be smart enough; no jeans but you can wear nice hats, accessories and colour.
“Tartan is fabulous. It’s an absolute perfect time to wear it when you’re in Scotland, and I think it looks so smart as well. It’s absolutely stunning.”
The first model up was Leyla, who had on a dark green vintage inspired dress with a belt, a cape, a pair of shoe boots and a pretty hair piece. Tori said:
“The cape is great because it covers the arms and gives you a little bit of coverage with the belt to cinch you in at the waist and the gorgeous little shoe boots.
“The boots have got to be a little bit more substantial because of the mud, and the little bit of detail in the hair with the hair piece really brings the outfit together.”
Next up was Jenna modelling a black fascinator, a tie-dyed pastel dress, a pearl cape and beige heels. The fascinator sits at the side of the head and has an almost couture vibe to it, and the dress turns in at the middle and looks really elegant with the pearl cape.
Tori advised not to wear a dress that’s too short and not to flash too much flesh, and a cape is the perfect way to keep your shoulders covered if your dress is strapless.
The last model up was Ross, who was wearing a tailored black suit with a white shirt and a pair of black lace-up shoes. Tori said:
“Check with the racecourse you’re going to what the requirements are but with a lot of them you don’t need to have a tie. Just unbutton the shirt at the top and add a little flower for a really smart look.”
