Great Scottish Run 2011 race preparation

This weekend marks the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run, with many runners taking to the race for charity, self achievement and other goals.

The Hour team have been training hard with fitness expert Stella Bartram and hope to raise as much as possible for the STV Appeal 2011. Now you too can benefit from her help with the latest of her fitness tips prior to race day.

STELLA’S TOP FIVE TIPS FOR BEFORE THE 10K:

Rest
Rest and sleep are both vital prior to the race, as Stella explains: “Make sure you get a good night’s sleep and plenty of rest, it’ll make you feel great on the day.”

Food and nutrition
Eating and drinking well are both extremely important, Stella says:  “Make sure you have a good meal the night before, don’t go too heavy on carbs and drink plenty of water.”

Preparation
Preparation is key and with only a few days left to the race it’s vital to keep organised and stay in good shape ahead.

As Stella explains: “Set out your clothes the night before, add your chip to your shoes, put your race number on your top. That way you know it’s done.”

Have a plan
Give yourself a race plan, this is an ideal way on staying on track on the day, as Stella explains: “Your race plan is going to help you on the day, set your target, aim for it and check your splits at every kilometre.”

Be positive
Finally, with your target in reach, Stella’s final tip is: “Be positive, you can do this.”

The Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run 2011 will be taking place on Sunday September 4. For more information see the website.
