Becoming a first-time parent is one of the most exciting things you can do in life, so The Hour decided to follow a young couple as they embark on their very own journey through pregnancy and birth.
Laurene Mathers, 28 and Graham Kerr, 27, were delighted to find out that they are expecting thier first baby, and it’s been a fairly smooth pregnancy so far for Laurene.
Together for 16 months, the couple have worked together and been friends for about four years. They got engaged last year, then discovered the happy news, and have decided to share every step of the pregnancy with The Hour.
In the first part of our Baby Diaries feature, Laurene and Kerr went for a 4D scan at Baby Scanning in Ingram House in Glasgow, 26 weeks into the pregnancy.
Lucy Barclay-Carr, the director of Baby Scanning explained to the couple what a 4D scan actually shows: “The difference really is that the 2D scan is the black and white stuff you get in the hospital, the 3D stuff is the nice 3D image that you see, and the 4D stuff is the moving real time 3D, so you see the baby moving about and waving and yawning, and whatever it feels like doing," she said.
The couple were left amazed by seeing their unborn child wriggling about and moving its arms and legs, and the grandmothers-to-be who were also left speechless.
Laurene’s mum said: “I just think it’s amazing to see your child’s child inside them, it’s so clear it’s amazing technology,” while Graham's added: “Everybody is excited because it’s the first, the first grandchild for me.”
We’ll be following the couple on their journey as they get closer and closer to the big day. Keep checking back on stv.tv/thehour for all the latest on the Baby Diaries.
