The Hour summer dieter Russell Collins has more reason that most to lose some weight.
Russell was diagnosed with diabetes recently, the same condition which his father died young from, aged just 48.
“My weight is a major issue for me,” says Russell. “Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with diabetes just a couple of months ago, which was a bit of a shock to the system.
“My dad actually died when he was diagnosed with diabetes myelitis and had a heart attack. He was the first in the family to have diabetes.
“He died at 48, I’ve got a year to go until I am 48.”
Russell though has been impressing in his efforts, becoming more active and even managing a 14 mile cycle and run with his dog, as well as participating in sports like badminton and golf.
His determination to improve himself has shone through in his video diary and he says that he’s noticed a definite improvement.
“I want to make the change,” Russell said. “I want to be more healthy and I want to be more fitter and I want to lose weight. Feeling good about yourself on the inside obviously shows on the outside.
“My energy levels are off the scale compared to what they were before I started the summer diet programme. I have been playing golf, been cycling and walking the dog.”
Russell has also noticed his “couch potato” ways have come to an end and that he is itching to do something at night when he gets in.
“Tiredness played a big part on not wanting to do anything when I came home from my work.
“I want to do something, I am bored if I am just sitting and that’s not me. That’s the biggest change for me.”
