With Michelle and the rest of The Hour gang away sunning themselves for the summer, wine expert Tom Cannvan visited the studio to offer a few seasonal tipples that you can enjoy as well.
So whether you are planning a girl’s picnic with a few glasses of fizz or a light evening meal with something a little heavier, Tom has the wine for you.
Quinta de Azevedo, Vinho Verde 2010, £6.99 from Majestic
This classic wine from the north of Portugal is just 11.5 per cent alcohol so is light and summery, with a hint of lemon and pear. On the palette it is delicate with a slight spritz, but not a full fizz.
Piedmon Cortese 2010, £5.99 from Marks & Spencer
This Italian white wine is also only 11.5 per cent, but has a great freshness with notes of lime, flowers and even sherbet. To taste it is dry, so will go great with fish, pastas and prawns.
Rose Wall, Viognier 2009, £6.99, Tesco
The bright sunshine in Australia results in a bigger wine, with 13 per cent alcohol. The viognier originally came from the Rhone valley in France but has since flourished in Australia. With hints of apricots and peaches, it is perfect for slightly heavier dishes like chicken.
