The Top of the Pops of traditional Scottish music and dance, STV show Thingummyjig hits a popularity peak in 1982.
Hosted by wisecracking DJ Jack McLaughlin, this weekly programme showcased the best in up-and-coming Scottish acts in a traditional barn-dance setting (called the Sunny-Dunny).
Running throughout the 1980’s the show is credited with an upsurge in the popularity of Scottish country dancing and Tartan Kitsch. A club where the dancing was strictly ceilidh opened on the banks of the Clyde. It was all a long way from Jimmy Shand and the Bluebell Polka.
This particular clip features feet-stomping Celtic act The Clydesiders and acoustic songstress LorraineSummers.
