Wild At Heart star Dawn Steele has confessed that she does not get to look sexy in the African vet drama.

The actress said that she enjoys playing the role of vet Alice Collins in the STV show.

The 35-year-old told the Daily Mirror: "It's not a very sexy job. I never get to dress up.

"My character is always in boots and khaki trousers and I can never grow my nails - they just get so mucky and dirty on the farm.

"Actually, it's quite nice not to have to be like that. There's this idea today that everything's got to be sexy, but I like it that Alice is more intelligent than anything else.

"Dawn admitted that she admires her character's emotional strength.

She added: "It can be challenging for me to play because she's usually so brave about everything and she takes her job very seriously - being a vet is her life.

"Sometimes I step outside myself when filming and think, 'I can't believe I'm doing this', but believe it or not, you get used to it."
