Place Of Birth: Glasgow, 1962
Robert "Rab" Buchanan is a former Scottish actor probably best known for playing Andy in Bill Forsyth’s Gregory’s Girl and Ronnie in That Sinking Feeling.
You might remember his excellent chat-up lines of weird statements of facts while playing Andy. For example: “Do you know that when you sneeze it comes out your nose at 100mph?”
Buchanan, like other young actors in these films, had come to the notice of Forsyth while at the former Glasgow Youth Theatre and was hand-picked to star in Forsyth’s movies.
Bill Forsyth wrote and specifically created the parts Buchanan played after Buchanan himself.
1984’s Comfort and Joy rounded off Buchanan’s collaboration with director Bill Forsyth and was his last acting role in a feature film.
He now works as a theatre technician at the Tollbooth Arts Centre in Stirling.
