Dee Hepburn is a film and TV actress who is now a sales rep for a pharmaceutical company.
Born in Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Hepburn is most famous for her role as Dorothy, the female football star in Scottish classic Gregory’s Girl.
Having trained as an actress, a young Hepburn played Maggie in the BBC’s 1978 production of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie before being cast as the love interest in Gregory’s Girl.
Unlike most of her co-stars on Bill Forsyth’s 1981 film, the 19-year-old Hepburn didn’t attend the Glasgow Youth Theatre, but landed the part nonetheless. The character of Dorothy required Hepburn to become a skilled footballer and Forsyth sent her on a six-week training course with Partick Thistle to improve her skills.
Following her unique experience of Gregory’s Girl, Hepburn turned towards television to find her next roles, which included Glasgow based series Maggie and a presenting turn on It’s a Knockout.
The actress then secured a long-running role on soap opera Crossroads, playing Anne-Marie Wade for three years (1985-88). However, the uncertainty of where the next job was coming from took its toll and Hepburn, then a single mother, quit acting to raise a family.
Hepburn returned to the silver screen, however, when she starred alongside Oliver Reed in The Bruce, but the comeback was short lived. She now works as a pharmaceutical sales rep in East Kilbride.
