Clare Grogan nearly missed out on playing Susan in Gregory's Girl due to a fight in a Glasgow night club.
The Scottish singer and actress was assaulted in a club in Glasgow just before filming was about to start and ended up with a huge scar on her face and loosing a big section of her cheek.
"Bill fought my corner, when the others wanted to re-cast and I could only be shot from one side. They ended up building my face up with morticials lax," Clare told STV.
The 1981 coming-of-age romantic comedy film was the start of Clare Grogan's very long career of both singing and acting and now writing.
"I feel so grateful to him for saying 'no, we've got to hang on to Claire for the film'," she said.
Gregory's Girl is on STV on March 29.
