Alan Titchmarsh, will be co-presenting Popstar to Operastar alongside Myleene Klass and he thinks it’s an excellent opportunity to bring the hype of opera to a wide household audience.
“I’m a huge music fan,” he says. “I have a radio programme based on opera and musicals. I think Popstar to Operastar is a really good way of spreading the word and popularising great music. It’s a fantastic chance to take opera to a wider audience.”
The 60-year-old broadcaster is fanatical about the idea of Popstar to Operastar.
“I hope after watching this people will start listening to opera," he admitted. "It will show people who might have thought that opera was too elitist that in fact it’s just about wonderful, wonderful melodies.”
Titchmarsh who presents his own highly successful chat show, The Alan Titchmarsh Show explains what the pop stars will learn from taking part in the show.
“Its an enormous challenge, but I think the contestants will discover that if you use your voice properly, its truly exhilarating,” Alan continued. “I hope they find out the enormous release of power you get from singing.”
Alan is also keen to see the transformation of the pop stars: “I’m dying to find out who will turn from a pop star into an opera star. As a viewer, it’s irresistible. If I were sitting at home on a Friday night, I’d definitely watch it!”
