X Factor star Joe McElderry is hoping to develop a romance with former contestant Rachel Adedeji, according to a report.

Sources have said that the Geordie lad "became close" to Rachel during their time together in the shared X Factor house and the pair have remained in regular contact over the telephone.

But now Joe is hoping that Rachel will become his girlfriend, according to the Daily Mirror.

An insider claimed: "Joe thinks Rachel's totally amazing.

"They were best mates in the house but he'd like her to be his girlfriend.

"He has missed her since she left the competition and the house. They talk on the phone all the time."

An X Factor insider said that McElderry and Adedeji would make a "perfect couple".

The source said: "They are both really down-to-earth, genuine people and it's obvious when you see them together they care a lot about each other.

I think it'd be great for Joe to have a girlfriend who's into the same things as he is."

McElderry is emerging as the current favourite to win this year's X Factor crown and Simon Cowell confessed "Joe is the one to beat".
