A host of Scottish celebrities gear up to celebrate St Andrew’s Day and reveal how they would spend their ideal day in tribute to Scotland’s patron saint on November 30.
Olympic gold medal winning cyclist Chris Hoy admitted he is normally competing on St Andrew’s Day, but that his ideal night would be spent in Edinburgh Castle surrounded by family, friends and a sense of history.
Jon Fratelli, front man of Glasgow rock band The Fratellis, insists Scots should always celebrate St Andrew’s Day and as for patriotism, the singer revealed that his Scottish pride is a result of the country’s cuisine “which gets a hard time around the world”.
Sarah Heaney also paid tribute to the Scottish diet. The TV presenter admitted she would buy the biggest sausage roll in the bakers and some orange stuff to wash it down with. She also backs making St Andrew’s Day a national holiday “to save everyone taking sick days”.
Singer Leon Jackson placed emphasis on the family when celebrating Scotland’s saint.
“I think on St Andrew’s Day it should be family orientated and you should spend it with your loved ones and do something a wee bit Scottish. Have some haggis and have a wee dram,” advised Jackson.
For his ideal St Andrew’s Day celebration, the former X Factor contestant would head to Glasgow’s famous music venue The Barrowlands with a host of musicians and jam the night away.
