Aberdeen’s own Peter Ferguson and Ann Ruxton have made it through to the final of TV cooking challenge Taste the Nation.

Mentored by Scottish chef Nick Nairn the Aberdeen team secured their place after seeing off Northern Ireland’s County Down team in the semi finals.

Despite their success, Ruxton was criticised for her soufflé by the judges, but the rest of the meal raised their overall score, winning them the battle.

“I never want to see another soufflé again,” she said, relieved to be in the last stage.

The show has provided a platform for the chefs to show their ability and fly the flag for Scotland despite the obvious pressure of having their culinary skills judged every day by the judges.

“It wasn’t what we expected it was going to be like. It was a complete shock to be filming with all these cameras and the pressure that is put on by the judges and Nick Nairn and everyone,” said Ferguson.

However, the chef maintained he has enjoyed his time on the show.

“The experience has been absolutely phenomenal,” he said.

The final of Taste the Nation is broadcast on STV Monday, April 27
