The head of the session was Christine who explained how she came to be where she is today.
“11 years ago I worked in a solicitor’s office and every lunch hour I went out and had sandwiches and cakes and little did I realise that every year I was going up by about a stone.”
Then by chance one day she passed and noticed a slimmers’ club sign posted outside a town hall. In a spur of the moment decision she took the sometimes difficult step to address, what had now become, a weight problem.

The change was dramatic. Now determined to lose weight Christine attended every meeting and inside a year had lost a remarkable five stone. Shortly after this inspiring goal had been reached she was asked to become a Weight Watchers leader.
The group seemed cheerful and confident under the guidance of Christine and when it came to the moment many dread, the weigh-in, there were plenty of smiles all round.
Bruce, keen to pick up some sure-fire slimming tips, approached the slimmers as the left the scales. Some had lost incredible amounts of weight, including one gentleman who had lost seven stone in a single year.
Traditionally slimming groups have been seen as the domain of women but in recent years with an improved understanding of the causes and dangers of obesity; and a greater media focus on the problem, men are too taking the fight to the fat.
After taking part in a cooking demonstration Bruce Devlin and the group ended another meeting, but not before Christine left them with some advice.
"Eat well, stay satisfied and lose weight."
