On 3 November 2006, Lily returned from Australia to attend her great niece Eve’s wedding blessing. 
 
Lily is Edna Birch’s estranged sister. She emigrated to Australia in 1967.
She has a son, Peter, who stunned the village when he arrived. It was revealed that his real mum was Lily,  not Edna Birch even though Edna had brought up Peter as her own son.

When Lily returned to the village in 2007, Edna was not happy. Lily then started growing cannabis plants in the Kings' polytunnel, as it helped to ease her agonising arthritis. Eli Dingle caught on, and he blackmailed her into supplying him so he could sell it. The police eventually found out and Eli got into trouble. But when the police went searching in the polytunnel, they found nothing - Edna had got rid of all the evidence and saved Lily from a jail sentence but she was not happy with her and ordered her to leave the village. Lily went but returned and moved in with Pearl, Edna's friend, much to poor Edna's disgust.

Anne Charleston is perhaps best known for playing the part of Madge Bishop in the Australian soap opera Neighbours. She has also appeared as Betty Waddell in Crossroads and starred in the sitcom Dossa and Joe, written by Caroline Aherne. Anne’s theatrical experience is extensive and she has also appeared in many Australian TV plays
