Belle Dingle's was a surprise arrival to everyone in Emmerdale, not least her mum, Lisa. Zak's second wife had no idea she was pregnant and was stunned when, on Christmas Day 1998, she gave birth to her daughter in the Dingles' stable. Of course, vet Paddy Kirk (who delivered Belle) was equally stunned by the baby's arrival, but afterwards everyone in the family agreed it was the best present they could ever have been given.

The youngest child of Zak and the only child of Lisa, Belle is the brightest Dingle the family and she knows it. Belle uses her cheeky charm and wit to keep her far more senior family members on their toes. At heart she is a dingle though and loves a good scam, especially as she has people like Rosemary King wrapped round her little finger.

One of Belle's most memorable storylines was where she and Saz fell down a mine shaft. Luckily brave Daz managed to keep Belle afloat and they were eventually rescued.

Eden Taylor-Draper took over the part of Belle Dingle from Emily Mather in 2005. She fought off competition from 30 other girls to take the role and has since won a British Soap Award in 2006 and an inside Soap Award in 2007.
